Buckets of Love
We got a new turtle today =)
Say hello to bucket! =) Bucket's so named because since he was a dollar-sized turtle he's lived in a common mopping pail for 20 years. His owners covered the bucket so he's always lived in the dark. He's also never had a dry place to crawl to so he's got algae all over his shell. He was about 7 inches in diameter when we got him, still in his pail, with abt an inch of manouvering space. He's rather afraid of people--I hope his previous owners were gentle with him. He belonged to my colleague's parents-in-law since he was a baby. My colleague was talking about her parents-in-law intentions of letting him go in MacRitchie one day, so we took him in, knowing he wasn't likely to survive there since he's so old.
Bucket has a gentle temperament, and unlike most Red Eared Sliders, moves rather slowly and chomps rather slowly. He's got algae all over his shell, so to prevent shell rot and get rid of algae, we gave him a little tub of his own with a basking rock n sunshine in my balcony. I really hope he recovers and does well. I hope he finds a place where he feels safe, where he belongs, and learns to trust.
Here's to you, sweet bucket, and welcome home.
